Here is a quick summary of how to crochet a power flower coaster:
- You will only need to work in the 7 rounds.
- In the first three, you will achieve the basic dense texture using the foundation ring, chain, slip stitch, and double crochet (= half trouble!).
- In the fourth round, you must skip some stitches (chain3 space!) while working to make a spacy round using chain, double crochet, and then join the round.
- In the fifth, you will use the more dense stitch (single crochet = double crochet!) to create a non-spacy texture.
- It will complete the flower center and now make the wavy petals in the last two rounds.
- For this, you will make the clusters of dense crochet and slip stitch where you want to make it downward. Again, make another cluster and slip stitch by doing on whole round wavy pattern will be achieved. In fact, increase and decrease will be needed here.
Tips To Choose The Right Yarn
Crochet coasters may need to absorb the condensing water from the drink jars and sometimes the heat, too. So, a yarn that is durable, absorbent, heat-resistant, and bright, too (in the case of this crochet flower coaster!) is best.
Although cotton is a good choice, I chose the cotton-acrylic blend as Paton’s Cotton Blend 8ply yarn. Why? Because it has vast colors, more easier to care for, is more affordable, machine-washable, heat-resistant, and maintains shape well. So, you can get the abilities of both fibers.

Magic Ring: To make a magic ring, you can loop the yarn around the fingers and then insert a hook to the back of the fingers, and then pull through and tighten up. One better way for the smaller magic ring is to make a magic round by making straight foundation chains and then joining them together through slip stitch.
sl st = slip stitch: It will be helpful when joining the round and ends and finishing it. Yarn over (warping yarn to hook!), insert hook into stitch, yo pull up a loop, and pull through both loops.
ch = chain: This will be helpful to create space and also use at the start of each round. YO & pull through the loop.
dc = double crochet = single crochet: insert hook into the stitch, YO pull up a loop, YO and pull through first 1 loop. YO again and pull through the remaining loop. It will be helpful to make a little dense texture in the round.
htr = half treble = Half Double: YO, insert hook into the stitch, YO and pull up a loop, YO again and pull through all three loops on hook.
tr = treble = Double: YO, insert hook into the stitch, YO and pull up a loop, YO again and pull through first two loops on hook. YO again and pull through all the remaining loops.
dtr = double treble = trouble: YO twice, insert hook into the stitch, YO and pull up a loop “YO and pull through two loops” X 3.
dtr = double treble: YO thrice, insert hook into the stitch, and pull up a loop, “YO and pull through two loops” X 4.

Pattern Note: The pattern is written in UK terms, with a short one in the US at the end.
Round One
Round 1
To begin make a magic ring, chain 1 (this doesn’t count as a stitch) then work 8htr into the ring. Sl st to the top of the first htr to join round. (8htr)
Round Two
Round 2
Chain 2 (counts as 1htr), then 1 htr into in the same stitch. Work 2 htr into each htr from the previous round. Sl st to the top of the ch2 to join. (16htr)
Round Three
Round 3
chain 2 (counts as 1htr), then work 2htr in the next stitch. Continue to work 1htr, then 2 htr into each stitch from the previous round. Sl st to the top of the ch2 to join. (24htr)
Round Four
Round 4
Ch1 (doesn’t count as a st) then 1dc. Ch 3, miss a stitch and then dc into the next. Continue to ch3, then dc into every second stitch all the way around. Sl st into the first dc to join round. (12 x ch-3 spaces, 12dc).
Round Five
Round 5
Sl st into first ch-3 space. Ch3 (counts as 1tr) then work 3tr into the same ch-3 space. Work 4tr into each ch-3 space all the way around. Sl st into the top of the first ch3. (48tr)(12x4tr)
Round Six

– Ch 5, sl st in between the first two groups of 4tr from the previous round. Continue to ch5, and then sl st in between the tr groups all the way around. (12sl st, 12x ch-5 spaces)

*Sl st into the next ch-5 space and work 1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc* Repeat for * to * all the way around. After the last dc, cut the yarn and thread it into a needle. Fasten off. All done!!
