I’m super excited to introduce crochet designer Knothing Usual as my next Creative Maker feature. As with most of my maker features, i found the beautiful Lily from @knothing_usual on Instagram. Her unique style, and variety of patterns have inspired me since i first spotted them on Instagram. So, let’s learn a little about Lily.

Lovely Lily was born and raised in Poland, but moved to Ireland in 2009. She describes Ireland as one of the most beautiful places on earth and now calls it home. Her mother taught her how to crochet at age ten, but it wasn’t until 2015 that she picked up the hook and fell in love with the craft. Her very first make was a granny square blanket, which she still uses today.

Like a lot of crochet designers, Lily wrote her first crochet pattern, because lots of people had requested it. This gave her the courage to write patterns for her other makes. When she was due to return to work a couple of months later, she decided to challenge herself and start working from home. It’s nearly one year since she made this decision and she’s happy with her progress.

Lily’s makes are beyond fabulous in design and style. Her Rainbow Drops Baby Blanket (pictured below) which was the very first pattern she wrote, holds a special place in her heart. The Neapolitana Sweater (pictured above) is in the process of being written up. It’s scrumptious! 🙂

Working from home means with two young children means that Lily needs to be organised. Every second of her days is planned out with a focus on balance. There is time for kids, time for chores, time for exercise and the rest is crochet time. Of course, with 2 small kiddos she has to be flexible. Generally, the bulk of Lily’s crochet is done in the evenings, when her “monsters” (Lily’s words not mine LOL) are asleep.
