Studio Hip en Stip
Meet the delightful Annemarie Huijser from Studio Hip en Stip, who is certainly one of my favourite instagram accounts, because her feed oozes happiness and joy! I’m absolutely thrilled to be featuring Anniemarie and her first book here on the blog, as it is always a pleasure to feature kind hearted and clever designers. Annemarie is married, has two beautiful kids and lives in the Netherlands, near the windmills of Kinderdijk. How cool is that!? Her new book, Studio Hip en Stip, is a visual delight and is a true reflection of Annemarie’s crochet style – that is, happy, bright and colourful. It is impossible not to smile as you flick through the pages, therefore making it a ‘must have’ book for your crochet collection.
How it all began?
Instagram helped kicked off her crochet career three years ago, with the @studiohipenstip account. It was at that time Annemarie began sharing pictures of her early crochet designs and her colorful home. As a result of sharing these stunning images her following grew at a rapid rate, and for that reason she was encouraged to share even more.
In addition to sharing pictures on a daily basis of her colourful crochet projects, Annemarie also learned how to write crochet patterns because she wanted to share her designs. People started to recognize and like her pictures because of her ‘signature style’, as every picture has the same recognizable fresh and bright color scheme.
Why write a book?
Finally, Annemarie reached a point where she wanted to share her patterns and designs with others, but rather than posting them on Instagram, she needed another medium for it to work well, a book for example. Therefore, she began thinking about writing a book with colorful and easy-to-make crochet designs and patterns, but more importantly, a book that would echo her style.
After approaching a publisher, who was immediately interested in creating her bright and happy crochet book, she began designing her book projects. Nine months later the book was launched at a colorful book party, certainly the perfect way to start her book tour! The entire book showcases Annemaries bright and colourful style, which you can immediately recognize her work just by looking at the cover.
Where does she find her inspiration?
Annemaries loves to mix and match bright colors and finds her inspiration from many sources – the streets, Netflix or from magazines. Often her designs include her favorite color, pink, alongside other cheerful shades. Frequently, she begins a design by making a doily (like the ‘Colorful doilies’ in her book) because this is a good way to see if the colors will look good together in a larger project, for example a blanket or cushion.
Studio Hip en Stip often feature granny squares in all shapes or forms, because they are a great way to mix and match all kinds of colors together. In fact, Annemarie has included a couple of different granny square designs in her book. The ‘confetti granny square’ blanket is one of her faves and features on the cover of Studio Hip en Stip. That blanket is just one big, fun, bright & colorful party!
And if you can get your hands on a copy of her book, you definitely should! It is not currently available in English, but the beautiful images and clear charts mean you can still enjoy the book. Head to her blog for more information. You can find and follow Annemarie – (you know you want to)
