{Crochet} New Bloom Square

free crochet square chart

A fresh new year calls for a new crochet square! This one is called New Bloom and i hope it will be one of MANY designs i create this year. I love a fresh new start and i am really excited about the possibilities and opportunities ahead of me in 2017. I am not sad to see the back of 2016. I didn’t enjoy last year and saying that makes me feel sad, because life is too short not to enjoy every single year, but the truth is, it was a hard year. I always say to my kids that we go through hard times so that we appreciate the good times even more. I have a feeling that 2017 is going to be a good year. :)

So, with that in mind i’d like to share my first charted pattern. Please be kind to me as this is the first crochet chart that i have made and anyone who has tried to do this will know how challenging it can be. I have checked it mulitple times but there might be some errors. If you find any, please let me know. I’ve only included my shorthand instructions this time around – both in UK and US terms.

What you’ll need –

  • Any 8ply cotton yarn in 4 colours – Yarn A, B, C and D
  • 3.5mm hook

{Crochet} Chunky Monkey Rug

chunky crochet rug

When our DMC Natura Just Cotton XL arrived in store at Yummy Yarn and co, i just knew i needed to design a pattern for a chunky floor rug. The beautiful thing about this yarn is that it is 100% cotton and so soft! It is an easy project to complete on the weekend as this chunky yarn works up quite quickly. This rug can be used as a little floor rug, a lap blanket or even as a fancy bath mat. It’s a very versatile project. Personally, i wouldn’t use it high traffic areas as it’s more of a decorative piece. I’ve got mine on the ground near my bed and it feels so good stepping onto it in the mornings. Anyway, enough chitty chatty blah blah – here’s the pattern in UK terms. I’ll have some US instructions at some stage when i get spare moment. Don’t forget if you make this rug i’d love to see it, so please use #chunkymonkeycrochetrug on social media. :)

Don’t forget to tag #fleursquare once you’ve made your square. I’d love to see them!

I added another round of white trebles to each of my squares and then i joined them together to form the centre of a cushion. A round of green and another couple of rounds of trebles in white finished off my cushion nicely.

{Crochet} Mandy’s Mega Mandala Cushion Pattern

Crochet circle cushion

Here is my crochet mega mandala pattern – Mandy’s Mega Mandala. It is written in UK terms but there are shorthand US terms and instructions at the end of this tutorial.  The stitches are relatively simple, but it’s important to count your stitches, especially as it’s such a large crochet circle. If you miscount in the first few rounds, then the entire mandala will be out for the duration of the pattern and no one wants that!

You will need 8ply yarn and a 4mm hook. I’ve used Patons cotton blend.

Stiches you will need to know

  • sl st – slip stitch
  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • htr – half treble
  • tr – treble
  • dtr – double treble
  • tr2tog – treble two togther
  • tr3tog – treble three together
  • magic loop

Crochet circle cushion

I made two mandalas and stitched them together over a round cushion insert. It’s like two cushions in one, with a different colour sequence on the other side. If you make one of my mega mandalas please tag #mandysmegamandala on social media. If you’re looking for a smaller mandala to crochet please check out Mandy’s Mandala and my Sunnyside Up Mandala. Enjoy!
