{Crochet} Mandy’s Mega Mandala Cushion Pattern

Crochet circle cushion

Here is my crochet mega mandala pattern – Mandy’s Mega Mandala. It is written in UK terms but there are shorthand US terms and instructions at the end of this tutorial.  The stitches are relatively simple, but it’s important to count your stitches, especially as it’s such a large crochet circle. If you miscount in the first few rounds, then the entire mandala will be out for the duration of the pattern and no one wants that!

You will need 8ply yarn and a 4mm hook. I’ve used Patons cotton blend.

Stiches you will need to know

  • sl st – slip stitch
  • ch – chain
  • dc – double crochet
  • htr – half treble
  • tr – treble
  • dtr – double treble
  • tr2tog – treble two togther
  • tr3tog – treble three together
  • magic loop

Crochet circle cushion

I made two mandalas and stitched them together over a round cushion insert. It’s like two cushions in one, with a different colour sequence on the other side. If you make one of my mega mandalas please tag #mandysmegamandala on social media. If you’re looking for a smaller mandala to crochet please check out Mandy’s Mandala and my Sunnyside Up Mandala. Mindful Crochet Pattern

When super crocheter Shelley from Spincushions said she wanted to gift one of her patterns to @craftastherapy i was touched by her generosity. Shelley is an extremely talented crochet designer, who loves designing crochet squares and blankets. She is also just slightly obsessed with seamless crochet. Seriously, her crochet designs are just perfection!

Mindful Crochet

Shelley has created a beautiful repetitive 4 round square, called Mindful, which is fitting for meditative crochet and crafting as therapy. She described the pattern herself as ‘mindlessly meditative’ and therefore ideal for relaxing. It’s beautfully simple little block that can be made as small or as large as you like. Perfect for blankets, scarves or crochet project that uses squares. The options are endless! And in true Shelley style she has written the pattern in both UK and U.S. terms so everyone can have a play!!! Yay! Click on the images below to download the Mindful Pattern.

{Crochet} Sunnyside Up Mandala Pattern

crochet mandala tutorial

Oh my gosh! I had such a positive response to my very first crochet mandala, Mandy’s Mandala, that i was inspired to create another. So, here is another free crochet mandala pattern that i’ve designed. This one is called the Sunnyside Up Mandala, for obvious reasons. I love the bright happy yellow yoke and egg white surround, but i’m sure it was look pretty in other colour combinations too. :)

I’ve used my favourite yarn, Patons Cotton Blend 8ply for this project. The instructions are all written in UK terms, but there are US shorthand instructions at the end of this post.  The stitches you need for this one include –

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • htr = half treble
  • tr = treble
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • tr3tog – treble three together (explained below)
  • tr4tog – treble four together (explained below)

Treble Three Together (tr3tog)

Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over hook and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over pull through two loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over and pull up loop (4 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through two loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over and pull up loop (5 loops on hook) yarn over pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

Treble Four Together (tr4tog)

Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over hook and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over pull through two loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over and pull up loop (4 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through two loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over and pull up loop (5 loops on hook) yarn over pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook). Yarn over hook, insert into st, yarn over and pull up loop (6 loops on hook) yarn over pull through 2 loops (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.

Tag your images with #mandysmandala so that i can see your beautiful creations. Thank you!
