{Crochet} Granny Heart Tutorial

granny square heart

Hello Crochet Heart Granny Square lovers! I have had so many people ask for a tutorial for this square that i thought it was time to write one. I’ve included a brief explanation of how i like to change colours. Enjoy! xx

Yarn – Patons Cotton Blend 8ply
Hook Size – 3.5mm hook
Measurement – approx. 10cm square
You will need
•  (A) pink, (B) Aqua
• 3.5mm crochet hook
• tapestry needle

The start of your square is like any other granny square. In fact the first two rounds are worked in a single colour – pink. I like my granny squares to be nice and compact, so i don’t have any chains in between the tr clusters and only 1ch at the corners. Feel free to add 1ch in between the clusters and 2 to 3 chs at the corners if that is your prefernce.

If you’re confident with making granny squares and changing colour, you can simply use the guide in the square below. Otherwise, scroll down for step by step instructions.

DIY Map of Australia Heart Print

paper craft map of australia

I’ve seen a few map silhouettes in frames for sale and have often thought that they were overpriced. So when my Aunt was admiring one online for almost $100 i thought i should have a go at making one. This craft activity is super easy and quick to complete. If you’ve got all your materials on hand it only takes about 10minutes to put together. You’ll need –

1. small map of australia about 12x12cm

2. square frame 20x20cm

3. heart template

4. white cardboard

5. scissors, pencil and double sided tape
heart trace map craft

Trace an outline of a heart onto the map of Australia using a template and very carefully cut it out. australia map heart Cut a square 20cmx20cm from the white cardboard and stick the heart in the centre using double sided tape.  australian map craftI used good quality card for the backing with a little gold shimmer in it. I’m not really happy with the colour of the map, so i’m going to see if i can find some vintage atlases to make a more colourful option. Overall, a super quick and easy paper craft activity. :)

How to make a washi tape heart card

how to make a washi tape heart card

We attended my brother-in -law’s wedding over the weekend. I needed a card for them and knowing the couple to be completely down to earth and relaxed, i wanted the card to suit them. It is no secret that i am a fan of washi tape. Who isn’t? Its uses are limitless. Just search ‘washi tape’ on Pinterest, i dare you, and see the massive number of creative projects that people all over the world have completed.

My card is simple but effective and easy to make. You’ll need –

1. cardboard

2. kraft blackboard heart (or another heart as a template)

3. pencil

4. assorted washi tapes

5. scissors

Step 1 – trace around the heart template so you have an outline on your card.

Step 2 – stick lengths of washi tape to the heart template. Don’t stick them down too hard because you will need to be able to lift the pieces of washi tape off easily.  Keep sticking until the heart is completely covered.

Step 3  – carefully cut off the overlapping  bits of washi tape.

Your heart template should look like this.

Step 4 – Once your heart is covered, very carefully remove the pieces of washi tape and attach them to your card using the pencil outline as a guide.

And finally, here it is all wrapped up with a bit more washi tape and string. I used the kraft chalkboard heart as a tag, which echoes the theme of the card inside.

The wedding itself was nothing short of stunning! Check out the lantern lit tent where we dined on delicious, simple and hearty food. And finally, a pic of the gorgeous couple. Congrats! xo
