April on my Instagram account featured a lot of crochet granny squares and for a good reason. Life has recently thrown our family a curve ball as my daughter’s scoliosis has reached a level that will require spinal surgery later this month. I have been madly making granny squares to finish my Random Granny Square Blanket so she will have something cosy and handmade to comfort her in hospital. While the fear of trusting a stranger to perform surgery on my daughter has been overwhelming at times, i still feel incredibly grateful for the health and happiness that all of my children exude. We never take that for granted.
I also spent some time in April just staring into the wide countryside that surrounds our home. Autumn is a magical time of the year, both at home and in Millthorpe. The pre sunset glow of golden hour makes everything feel okay again.
The last few days have been nothing short of glorious. I’ve been doing day trips around the countryside with my family and the weather has been perfect! Autumn has long been my favourite season, and each year in April i’m reminded why. The fresh sunny days, the gorgeous changing colours of the deciduous trees and the crisp cool evenings….just cool enough to snuggle with a blanket or someone special. While i love visiting Sydney or other cities, i really do love the country. More and more i picture myself in a stylish farm house overlooking rolling green hills. Cows in the paddock and chooks in the yard. *sigh* One day it will happen. Until then, i appreciate the surrounding small towns, their interesting locals and tempting boutiques.
This picture, i promise is untouched. This is how clear and blue the sky has been this week. So flawless, like a painting. And below, these funny geese we spotted wandering around Coonabarabran yesterday. They were very vocal and intimidating like they were unhappy about us invading their territory.
At the park the kids enjoyed the freshly fallen leaves. This is my daughter in the middle of her fallen leaf throw! I love this picture. It’s so nice to see the kids out in the sunshine and not in front of their devices. I’m sure all parents can relate.
This poor old general store has seen better days, but still hasn’t lost it’s charm. Isn’t it cute?
And the sunset last Friday evening was incredible. This picture honestly doesn’t do it justice. It was like the entire sky was on fire. Such vibrant shades of red and orange, you couldn’t help but stop and look at it.
And finally, I’ve succumbed to the lure of social media and created a facebook page for RedAgape. Please visit and ‘LIKE’ my page. I promise i won’t spam your news feed. Here are some of my picks of local Facebook pages.
