{Crochet} Mandala Tutorial {Mandy’s Mandala}

crochet mandala

I designed my very first crochet mandala pattern yesterday! I’m excited about sharing it with you, but i am also really nervous. I scribbled down the steps as i was making it, so i hope these instructions are clear and easy to understand. As this is my very first crochet design, i am open to hints or suggestions to make my writing clearer. And if you happen to find a mistake in the steps below – please let me know, so i can fix it as soon as possible. If you decide to try my pattern, i would love to see the results. Tag your images with #mandysmandala so that i can see your beautiful creations. Thank you!

This mandala is made from 8ply Patons Cotton Blend and a size 4 hook. Instructions are written in UK terms, and there are Shorthand Instruction in both US and UK at the end of this tutorial.

  4. THANK YOU for at last an “airy” design for a mandala! All the others I found had way too “dense” stitches. I have a burned patch on my bedroom carpet and found a photograph of a carpet runner made using mandalas. With your pattern, I can make various sizes of mandala and will thus be able to cover the mark. Blessings!

  9. Hello! What a beautiful mandala! I also love how it is more airy and less dense :) I am making in right now!
I just have one bit of feedback: In row 7 for the US terms shorthand, I believe it should read:
Round 7 – 1hdc in each sc (80hdc) instead of
    Round 7 – 1hdc in each dc (80hdc)
because in round 6 we did sc
Regardless, this pattern is very easy to follow. Love all the pictures as you go along!
You will see my finished mandala @briellecerep shortly!

    • Thank you so much for your feedback! And you are correct. I’ll fix it right now. Thanks again. I’ll look you up on Instagram. Xx

  13. Hello! This is great! I’m hoping to make this for a friend’s birthday. Can you please tell me what the finished diameter of this mandala is? (for framing!)

    Thank you,

  14. I can’t wait to make this lovely mandala! Thank you for sharing the pattern. It is beautiful. I love your color choices.

  15. Hi!
I am making this beautiful pattern and I think I got mixed up with the UK and US shorthand, which I didn’t even knew existed.
I did at the 6th row double crochet instead of single crochet and it looks much less pretty..
For some unexplained reason I also got 100 stitches in this row instead of 80..

  16. Love your mandala patterns and the colours you use. what size is this mandala? I would love to find one that would fit inside a 9 1/2 ” hoop. Thanks :-)

  17. Hi Mandy,

A lovely mandala, thanks for sharing the pattern. I’ll be putting a link up to your easy to follow instructions on my blog at the weekend, along with a photo of my colour combination.
