Materials Needed

  • 100% acrylic yarn
  • Scissors
  • Key ring
  • 4mm crochet hook

Instructions

1. Creating the Center (Brown Part)

  • Begin by making a magic ring with the brown yarn.
  • Then, chain two.
  • Work half double crochet clusters inside the magic ring. You’ll yarn over, insert the hook, pull through, and yarn over again, reinserting the hook into the ring without removing the loops.
  • Repeat the clusters.
  • Once done, yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook, then chain one.
  • Make a second identical piece for the back of the keychain.
  • Join the two brown pieces by single crocheting around the edge.
  • Finish with a slip stitch, chain one, and loosen the loop.

2. Creating the Petals (Yellow Part)

  • Attach the yellow yarn to the loop on the brown piece.
  • Chain three.
  • In the next stitch, create a cluster of half double crochet stitches.
  • Without removing the hook, make another half double crochet cluster in the following stitch.
  • Yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook to complete the petal.
  • Chain three and single crochet into the top of the petal to form a picot.

  • Chain three again and slip stitch into the same space where you made the clusters.
  • Repeat this process to create all the petals.
  • After the last petal, slip stitch, chain one, and cut the yarn, leaving a small tail to weave in. Use a smaller hook to hide the loose yarn.

3. Making the Leaf (Green Part)

  • Make a slip knot with the green yarn.
  • Chain eleven.
  • Single crochet in the next chain, followed by one half double crochet.
  • Work double crochets in the next seven chains.
  • In the last chain, make three single crochet stitches.
  • On the back side of the chain, reverse the pattern: work double crochets in the next seven spaces, followed by a half double crochet, and a single crochet.
  • Slip stitch in the small remaining space, chain one, and cut the yarn.
  • Hide the loose tail by weaving it in with a smaller hook.

4. Assembly

  • Use a lighter to carefully singe the edges of the sunflower and leaf to prevent them from fraying.
  • Attach the key ring to the leaf first, then attach the sunflower to the key ring.
