Magic Ring (MR)

Loop yarn around your fingers to create a circle.
Insert the hook into the circle, yarn over (YO), and pull up a loop.
YO again and pull through the loop on the hook. This creates the starting point (like a chain stitch) inside the ring.
Work the required number of stitches into the ring. Pull the tail end of the yarn to tighten the circle.

Single Crochet (Sc)

Insert the hook into the specified stitch.
YO and pull up a loop (two loops on a hook).
YO again and pull through both loops on the hook.

Increase (Inc)

Work two single crochet stitches [sc] into the same stitch.

[ … ] – Work in the Same Stitch

Follow the instructions within the brackets, performing all the actions in a single stitch.

Slip Stitch (Sl St)

Insert the hook into the specified stitch.
YO and pull through both the stitch and the loop on the hook in one motion.

Back Loop Only (BLO)

Instead of inserting the hook under both the top loops of the stitch, insert it under only the back loop (the loop furthest from you) and perform the designated stitch.

Decrease (Dec)

Insert the hook into the next stitch, YO and pull up a loop (two loops on hook).
Insert the hook into the following stitch, YO, and pull up another loop (three loops on hook).
YO again and draw through all three loops on the hook.

Chain (Ch)

YO and pull through the loop on the hook. This forms a chain. Repeat for the number of chains needed.

Front Loop Only (FLO)

Similar to BLO, but insert the hook under only the front loop (the loop closest to you) of the stitch before performing the designated stitch.
